The reactivity of metals tends to increase down a group in the periodic table due to the decrease in ionization energy and an increase in atomic size. As you move down a group, the outermost electrons are farther from the nucleus and are shielded by inner electron shells. This results in a weaker attraction between the outer electrons and the nucleus, making it easier for metals to lose electrons and become more reactive. Additionally, lower ionization energies mean that metals can more readily lose electrons to form positive ions, contributing to increased reactivity.
